Cash App $15M Settlement Payments Arriving This Month - Check If You Qualify
Approved claimants in the Cash App and Block Inc. $15M data breach settlement are receiving payments in October 2026. Claims are closed, but here's what affected users are getting paid.
What Happened
Approved claimants in the $15 million Cash App data breach settlement are receiving their payments this month. Block Inc. and Cash App Investing, LLC reached the settlement to resolve allegations that they failed to adequately protect customer data following two separate security incidents. A federal court granted final approval of the settlement on March 27, 2025, and the settlement administrator confirmed payments are going out in October 2026.
Background: What the Lawsuit Alleged
The class action alleged that Cash App and its parent company Block Inc. failed to implement reasonable data security safeguards, exposing users' personal and financial information in two separate incidents.
The first incident occurred in 2022, when a former Cash App Investing employee allegedly accessed customer data without authorization after leaving the company. The second occurred in 2023, when unauthorized parties gained access to accounts tied to recycled phone numbers - numbers previously assigned to other users that had been reissued to new customers.
Plaintiffs alleged these breaches caused financial harm, including unauthorized withdrawals from accounts and the exposure of personal information. Block and Cash App denied all wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of continued litigation. The settlement does not constitute an admission of liability.
Who Was Eligible to File a Claim
The settlement covered current and former Cash App users whose accounts or personal information were affected by unauthorized access, or who experienced fraudulent withdrawals, between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.
Important: The claim filing deadline was November 18, 2024. Claims are now closed. If you did not submit a claim before that deadline, you are not eligible to receive a payment from this settlement.
How Much Are Claimants Getting Paid?
Approved claimants could receive up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses - such as bank fees, credit-related costs, and other financial harm directly traceable to the security incidents. Claimants who documented lost time dealing with the breach could also receive up to $75 (up to three hours at $25 per hour).
Final payment amounts depend on the number of approved claims and the available settlement funds after administration costs and attorneys' fees. Not all claimants will receive the maximum amounts.
When Will Payments Arrive?
The settlement administrator has confirmed that payments are being distributed in October 2026. Claimants who submitted valid claims and chose direct deposit may receive funds directly in their accounts. Those who selected a check will receive payment by mail.
Claimants can check their payment status at the official settlement website: cashappsecuritysettlement.com.
What If You Did Not File?
If you were a Cash App user affected by either breach and did not file a claim before the November 18, 2024 deadline, you are not eligible for this settlement's payment. However, you retain the right to pursue independent legal action - though the window for that may also be closing depending on the statute of limitations in your state.
If you believe you were affected and did not receive notice of the settlement, contact the settlement administrator at cashappsecuritysettlement.com or call the toll-free number listed on the site.
