A federal judge has granted final approval to AT&T's $177 million settlement covering two separate 2024 data breaches that exposed personal information for more than 100 million customers. With court approval now secured, payments are expected to begin once the appeal window closes.

What Happened?

The settlement resolves multidistrict litigation, In re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL 3:24-md-03114-E, consolidated before Judge Ada E. Brown in the Northern District of Texas.

The litigation arose from two distinct AT&T data breaches in 2024. The first involved AT&T customer data that appeared on the dark web, exposing Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and account information for approximately 73 million current and former customers. The second breach compromised call and text records for nearly all AT&T wireless customers from mid-2022 through early 2023.

AT&T agreed to settle both matters without admitting wrongdoing. Judge Brown granted final approval on October 2, 2026.

How Much Will Payments Be?

The $177 million fund is split across the two breach settlements. Based on news reporting on the settlement terms:

AT&T Breach 1 ($149 million fund):

  • Documented losses: Up to $5,000 with supporting records
  • Tier 1 (SSN exposed): Estimated $39 to $40 per claimant
  • Tier 2 (other data): Lower flat payment

AT&T Breach 2 ($28 million fund):

  • Documented losses: Up to $2,500 with supporting records
  • Tier 3: Estimated $6.50 to $8.10 per claimant

Final per-person payment amounts will be confirmed after attorney fees, administrative costs, and the total number of valid claims are calculated. Approximately 5 million claims were filed before the December 18, 2025 deadline.

What Happens Next?

With final court approval secured, settlement administrator Kroll will begin processing and verifying the approximately 5 million claims filed. Payments are expected to be distributed once the statutory appeal period closes, provided no successful appeal is filed.

If you filed a claim before the December 18, 2025 deadline, no further action is required. You can check your claim status by contacting Kroll at (833) 890-4930 or visiting telecomdatasettlement.com.
